Jangdok Islet

Jongdok Islet is connected to the Wonsan docks by a long concrete pier and is situated in Yonghung Bay. The pier itself can be an adventure to traverse on a windy day because the waves will splash over. Despite this vendors take the risk and set up shop to sell their fresh seafood. People use the roughly 1.5 kilometers long pier to visit the Changdokdo lighthouse, the only lighthouse on the east coast that regular foreign tourists can visit. It was built by the Japanese in 1919 to help in their trading enterprises and is now featured on a North Korean stamp. Jongdok Islet itself is a small and very rocky, the pier itself is often the main feature of a trip to the islet, locals are even known to bike across it.
