Breaking News: Pyongyang Marathon 2020 Cancelled

We have received confirmation that the 2020 Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon (Pyongyang Marathon) has been officially cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) within China and internationally. This cancellation has been verified by the Pyongyang Marathon Committee and our partners in Pyongyang.

On January 22, 2020, foreign travel to the DPRK was temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to protect against the spread of coronavirus. All tourism to the DPRK remains completely halted until further notice.

Those who are registered on our marathon tours are able to reschedule at any time or receive a complete refund of their deposit (less bank charges).

The length of this travel suspension remains unknown. Restrictions can be lifted by authorities at short notice. Our future tours remain open for booking, but should this border closure affect the tour, flexibility is provided to reschedule without penalty or to receive a complete refund (less bank charges).

For those looking to travel to the DPRK, major festivities are expected to be held in Pyongyang during August and October for the 75th Anniversary of Liberation Day and Party Foundation Day respectively. We’ve received word that North Korea’s Mass Games are planning to return as part of these celebrations.
